Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that supports the growth of the whole child—emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically. We believe in fostering a love of learning through hands-on exploration, guided play, and nurturing relationships. Our goal is to build a strong, supportive community where children, parents, and educators collaborate in a safe, engaging environment that promotes joy, creativity, and growth.
Our Approach to Learning
At Gananoque Nursery School (GNS), we believe that play is the foundation of meaningful learning. Our play-based curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support each child’s development through engaging, hands-on experiences. Whether they’re building, painting, imagining, or exploring, children are naturally developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity every step of the way.
Nurturing Emotional & Social Growth
We place a strong emphasis on helping children growth socially and emotionally. Through daily interactions and guided activities, we encourage cooperation, sharing and positive conflict resolution. Our goal is to help children build healthy relationships, develop empathy and learn to navigate the world confidence and kindness.
Flexible Structure, Individual Support
Our program offers a balance of child-led exploration and educator-supported structure. Children are encouraged to move at their own pace while participating in both individual and group activities. This balance fosters independent thinking as well as teamwork and collaboration, ensuring that every child’s unique needs and strengths are recognized and supported.
Rooted In Ontario's Early Years Pedagogy
At GNS, we proudly support “How Does Learning Happen?”, Ontario’s pedagogical framework for early learning. Our curriculum is guided by the Four Foundations essential to a child’s well-being and success:
• Belonging – Every child is a valued member of our community.
• Well-Being – We promote healthy development and self-care.
• Engagement – Children are active, curious, and involved learners.
• Expression – Children are encouraged to communicate and be heard.
We are committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing environment that supports the whole child—emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually.
